has passed on.

I, among many, will feel the loss.
Please keep in mind that even the strongest-seeming people in your life may be needing an arm to hold, to steady them. We all need each others' support as we navigate the twists and turns of Life Chaotic.
Let others know if you need help please.

Some crowd pleasers seemed to be The Kiss, Flower Buddha, and Corvallis Town (not pictured here, sorry)...I heard a lot of commentary on all three pieces as I hovered near them. I can't choose favorites, but I truly love the KOOT paintings!!! Everytime I saw one I was grabbed and just stood smiling as I looked. I also especially enjoyed the color and geometry of Chinese Checkers, and Family Discussion 2. The Tipi and Remembering Casagemas 106 Years Later are also standouts.
Of course, seeing the Kapulers was the most wonderful part of the evening, but you still have a little more than a week left to see this show. If you're able, do so! It'll be worth your trip!

Mushroom's Birthday

I hope you're all planning to attend Mushroom's art show this evening at The Sunnyside Up Cafe in Corvallis.
Here's a rerun of an earlier post, in case you didn't get it the first time:
The Annual Birthday Showing of the paintings of
Alan Kapuler PHD/ Mushroom-Visual Artist

Monday, September 3, 2007

Sunnyside Up Cafe
116 Nw 3rd Ave
Corvallis, OR

six to eight pm

I believe this show runs the whole month of September.

Every bit the Rennaisance Man, Mushroom is a visionary scientist, activist, philosopher, gardener, lecturer and painter.
He is also one of my dearest friends and mentors. In large part because of Mushroom, I still believe that humans can be great...can distill pure art through their creations.
In his paintings we see images of his dear family, the Earth, and of course, plants...all imbued with a psychedelic beat-nik sensibility. Brilliant blocks of color overlay curving geometric landscapes, a still room with a child smiling beside a woodstove, a human face as seen by a seed...one might feel pulled to this timeless world, planted there by a master gardener.
Through his art, Mushroom brings the vision and emotion of the sixties to bear, synchronizing that past with all that's happened since. He describes a moment in time, not frozen there, but warm and dynamic. Here, now.
