Thank You Coretta

April 27, 1927-January 30, 2006

I am at once humbled and encouraged by the rich example of integrity that Coretta Scott King put forth.

I read about her when I was a teenager, and since then I've marveled at the way she picked up the pieces after her husband was killed. She raised her family well and continued to work ardently for social change...racial and economic justice, peace and non-violence, nuclear disarmament, children's and women's rights, gay and lesbian rights, AIDS, homelessness...her activism was dynamic and unrelenting.
She demonstrated profound spiritual strength throughout her life.

We're blessed to have shared the planet with Coretta Scott King.

Alice Paul

"Alice Paul was one of the leading figures responsible for the passage of the 19th Amendment (woman suffrage) to the U.S. Constitution.
After the 1920 victory for the federal amendment, Paul became involved in the struggle to introduce and pass an Equal Rights Amendment (ERA). The Equal Rights Amendment was finally passed in Congress in 1970 and sent to the states to ratify. However, the number of states necessary never ratified within the specified time limit and the Amendment failed.
Paul also was active in the Peace movement, stating at the outbreak of World War II that if women had helped to end World War I, the second war would not have been necessary."
Paul died on July 9,1977 in New Jersey. I appreciate her dedication and hard work on my behalf.

dedicated to Gabriel

"Don't compromise yourself. You're all you've got." - Janis Joplin

Are we awake yet?

Our family has experienced yet another death from heroin
overdose: Gabriel, Sun song's son, died last night.

Please, love yourself and one another, stay alive and
vital to promote the health and well-being of those
who love you, if you're able.

Understand that addicts are ill.
Compassion and kindness matter.
If you currently have an addict in your life,
make it your top priority to help hir get well.
If you are addicted to a dangerous substance,
make it a top priority to get well.
Let me know how I can help.
Please!
We MUST reach out to our family...otherwise, why do we call ourselves one?
Lay the grudges and doubts aside, let go of anything that's keeping
you from allowing this group to help you carry your load, or from helping others carry theirs.
We must behave responsibly,
ALL of these children are OURS!
All of you...adults and children alike...
are my responsibility
to one degree or another.

Please let me know if you need help.

Each time you speak with someone in your family, let
them know you're so glad to've done so. Tell them you
love them.

My mom's heart always shines through her words to me. I'm so blessed.

I look forward to hearing from you.

still kicking ass

Ambition Lyrics ( from Soldier )

I'm the kind of girl
I want that whole wide world
Nothing more nothing less
I don't want second best

Ah but my associates
Why they're no more than opiates
Always dragging me down
Dash my hopes to the ground

But they must be kidding
Or wishful thinking
Adding fuel to the fire
Of my ambition

I'll make a date
Oh no I won't be late
And why of course he'll be there
He'll promise he'll swear

But all I ever find
Been spun that same old line
It's happened time and time again before
But these things and more
Widen the score

And it's one up for
ambition

I really have a go
You know you've got to hand it to me
I've got a heart of gold
But I'm a wolf in woman's clothes

Someday my time will come
I'll feel I can't go on
I may not care or even know it's there
But then I'll have my fun

So 'till then just press on
Don't lose your grip man
Don't lose ambition

Many Happy Returns R Raven

This missive is dedicated to R Raven. Here's something I wrote which he likes:

I want to climb into bed with every beatnik I've ever known
and fetally curl
in the dark crooks of their old arms and pelvic girdles
while they spoon around me

protective
sane
but too wise
and unsure of how to proceed
to disturb that breath-held stillness
we've created

I promise to lay
in rapt, erotic silence
and listen to your broken heart moan
the story of your love and isolation
outside the window

I'll turn to face you
when we're ready
I'll pull you in, out of the light
to console you with something darker and older
than both of us put together

because this reminds us that we are human
and I am woman
and we are safe
as long as there are cynics and poets in the world

look to this day

look to this day for it is life
the very life of life
in it's brief course lie all
the realities and truths of existence

the joy of growth
the splendor of action
the glory of power

for yesterday is but a memory
and tomorrow is only a vision
but today well lived
makes every day a memory of happiness
and every tomorrow a vision of hope

look well therefore, to this day!

blue down

january is always patti smith's time for me, strong, spare, laid bare, all woman, all women
------------------------

Blue Down

i dreamt a friend was crying
i could do nothing
that would console him

he just stood in front of me sobbing
his head lurched up and down with each heave

i couldn't see his face
only big fat tears splashing
across the front of his big fat blue down coat
his trademark

usually his mind is so full
of varied thinking and things and projects
but last night...no...
his mind was emptying clear
right before my eyes
